The Bean Plates

We first graders make bean plates and learn about counting.

• First we take the beans, count them, and write down the total number of beans we have in our bowl.
• Next we sort the beans by color and put them in groups: white beans, green beans, black beans, sand beans, and brown beans
• We count the beans in each group
• We add the number of beans in each group. If the total number of the beans in all groups equals with the total number of beans we have in the bowl that is the correct number.
• Finally we decorate the beans on the plates.
