Community Services Club

Community Service Club is the idea of a group of students who would like to help people. We choose, “Picking Trash,” is the community services’ activity.

Members:

Ms. Anhthao Bui is in charge of the club.  The club will be four weeks long.

Week one:

We discuss, write, and draw pictures why we want to participate in the club and the activities for the upcoming weeks.

We would like to participate in the club because:

·         We want to have a clean school and center.

·         We want to make the earth clean and have a healthy environment.

·         We recycle the trash and make a puppy, a ball, a kitty, a rabbit, and a bird.

Week two: May 13

Agenda

·         Announcement & Discussion (10 minutes)

·         Prepare (5 minutes)

·         Pickup trash (30 minutes)

·         Trash’s sorting

·         Sharing

·         Cleanup

Before we start picking trash, Ms. Ann shortly tells us to use the gloves to protect us from germs. We do not pick up too dirty trash. We should tell Ms. Ann, so she will take care of it.

Equipments: gloves, plastic bags.

We pick up trash at the Montclaire CDC Center, outside the center, and school playground in 30 minutes. Ms. Ann lets us play at the playground about ten minutes. After that, we come back to the Center. We decide to throw away trash in the garbage to protect us from germs. Next week, we will bring our recycle paper, boxes, and bottles to make toys.

The trash is so dirty, but we are happy because we make the school clean and beautiful.

Week 3: May 20

Agenda:

·         Decision: what to do with the unused papers, boxes, and bottles

·         Teamwork

·         Making toys

·         Cleaning up

We decide to make a car, a scarecrow, a person, and a robot. We divide into two teams: Noga, Zoe, Megan, and Libbe make a person and a robot. Sarah, Jenya, and Brianna make a car and a scarecrow.

Noga and Megan do not agree with their group. They walk away and do not work with the group.

Learning Lesson:

·         Teamwork is working with friends. We should listen and respect our friends’ ideas.
